Independence Part 2
On the 9th of August, 1965 on the steps of City Hall, Singapore was expelled from Malaysia because of many riots mostly between the Malays and Chinese. When Singapore was thrown out, they had 3 days of water and USD 100,000,000. They thought the money would buy them back into the country; however, that was not the case. Because Singapore was facing raging unemployment, poor housing conditions, and national security concerns, the government turned to their allies in the west to secure the Singapore dollar as a tradable currency and to be recognized as a sovereign state by the United Nations, UN.
